Magnolia Linocut Course
02 Apr 2025
I attended an in-person introduction to linocut printmaking, hosted by Cambridge Botanic Garden, and led by Hannah Farthing.
The course was great fun. We sought inspiration in the gardens, designed our prints, and then carved them with guidance from Hannah.
I took inspiration from a magnolia flower. I didn’t manage to get the images for the two colour layers to align, but I’m happy with the final result.
The images show scanned linocut prints of a magnolia flower. Pale areas of the petals, buds, and stem are left white. Dark green ink shows shadows, buds, and stem details. Pink ink adds background color and defines the petals and flower details. The print has a hand-carved, textured look.
