Hippeastrum Light Pink

20 Apr 2025

I illustrated a white and pink Hippeastrum in coloured pencils. This plant is a selfed hybrid from the Hippeastrum Red White. The seed was one of those that I painted in 2020, in my Hippeastrum Flowering series.

This is the first time this bulb has flowered, and it is the first of the bulbs raised from seed to do so. The flowers are about half the size of the parent plant, and there are only two of them on the stem.

I drew the flower on Strathmore 400 Toned 118gsm Gray paper, so that the white edged petals would stand out. The image depicts a mostly white Hippeastrum with fine red markings. The painting shows two flowers, one of which is fully open. The petals are green at the centre, with red lines and speckles that increase in density toward the outer edge.
