Rubens’ Nymphs and Satires, but with Swamp Dragons

26 May 2021

I reimagined Peter Paul Rubens’ Nymphs and Satyres, using Sir Terry Pratchett’s swamp dragons in place of the original figures.

The oil painting shows 18 swamp dragons. Six are at least partly in the water, four are on the island, five in trees and three on a rocky crag.

The water was painted using a blend of phthalo green, phthalo blue and dark verdigris. Oil painting is one of those hobbies where you can easily spend £30 on a small tube of paint, but sometimes it is absolutely worth it.
