View from Seahouses
15 May 2021
Whilst on holiday, my mother captured an incredible photo from the cliffs near Seahouses, which I then painted in oils.
The painting depicts the Farne Islands in the distance, across a grey-blue sea. The rocky beach is rendered in shades of grey and brown, with rockpools reflecting the blue sky. In the midground, green grass adds depth to the scene.
In the foreground, the rocks are covered in white and yellow lichen, contrasting beautifully with the bright pink sea thrift (Armeria maritima). My favourite detail in the painting is the small cluster of sea thrift in the top-right corner.
