The painting shows four tomato fruits on a stem, ranging from ripe (red), through orange (ripening) to unripe (green). There are brown lesions at the blossom ends of the two red tomatoes, each surrounded by a pale yellow halo. The orange tomato has yellow discolouration at the blossom end, indicating that it too is developing blossom end rot.
