Light + Shadow 2024: Chalk and Charcoal Drawings
Feb - Sep 2024
I practiced drawing with chalk and charcoal to deepen my understanding of light and shadow. Most of these drawings were created using reference objects illuminated by a single strong light source.
Materials Used:
Strathmore 400 Series Toned Tan Paper Spiral Bound Sketchpad (118gsm , acid free, 30% post-consumer fibre)
General’s Pencil Charcoal Kit (11 pieces)
You can explore the results of my weekly practice series in the portfolio below. The drawings are arranged in reverse chronological order: by comparing the newer pieces with the older ones, you can see how my technique has evolved over time.
If you’d like to use these drawings for teaching or display (e.g., on your wall or office door), feel free to do so. For any other use, please contact me for permission.
